What is Peer Mentoring?
Mentoring is about listening, encouraging and sharing experiences to help increase confidence, self esteem and motivation towarda learning. Mentoring can help you to realise your full potential and experience success.

What are the benefits of being a Peer Mentor?
As a Peer Mentor at New College will have the opportunity to study a nationally accredited training programme and will be given support and networking opportunities to help you in your role.

Through the training, you will learn to develop a number of skills including communication and problem-solving. Students who successfully complete the course are able to demonstrate to potential employers and/or Higher Education Institutions that they have a real understanding of how to work with people and help motivate people.

How many Peer Mentors does New College have?
Currently there are 14 accredited mentors, with numbers growing all the time. The accreditation courses run 2-3 times a year, so there are several opportunities to become a trained mentor.

How are Peer Mentors recruited?
There are various routes.

  • Through the Schools Liaison Process
  • Referral via personal tutor
  • Self referral
  • Enrichment programme
